Some friends of mine introduced me to Masters of Orion II (MOO2)a number of years ago. Fun game that.
I don't have the luxury of being as geeky as I would like, so I only really got to play it with them. While my wife quite enjoys our lan parties of Warcraft III, there is no way she would have the attention span to playe a turn based space exploration (4X) game. She can't even stand how slow World of Warcraft is (yeah I know).
So the other day I came across a link to this. As boring as everyone said MOO3 was with all it's micromanegment, this Sword of the Stars sure removes all the details of maintaining a galactic empire. It focuses more on the "real time" battles, which would be difficult to strategically deal with, due to the neutonian physics and a lack of camera control. I've played the demo only, and I hear the weapons get pretty awesome. The physics would be pretty cool if you got use to them, which I bet doesn't take that long, but I'll not get over how difficult it is to find my ships, or my enemies. I much preferred the awesome battles of Homeworld: Cataclysm.
